Some love stories deserve the most iconic backdrop in the country. For this Bangladeshi couple post-wedding shoot in Sydney, we spent a full afternoon and evening exploring the city with a newlywed couple, from grand sandstone heritage architecture in the CBD to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the sails of the Sydney Opera House at golden hour.

Photographed by S M Imran Hassan of Purple Bird Photo & Video, this session followed the couple's Nikah and captured everything we love about South Asian weddings in Australia: rich traditional colour, genuine emotion and a city that looks spectacular on camera. The bride wore a stunning red bridal outfit with henna-adorned hands, perfectly paired with the groom's classic black suit and red tie.

Heritage Sandstone & Timeless Elegance in the Sydney CBD

We started among the colonnades and chequered marble floors of one of the CBD's historic sandstone buildings. Tall columns, arched doorways and deep green heritage doors created a classic, almost European feel, and the soft overcast light was ideal for flattering portraits. These quieter spaces gave the couple time to relax in front of the camera, so the laughter, forehead touches and stolen glances came naturally. We also made sure to capture the details that matter so much at a Bangladeshi wedding: the bridal jewellery, the bangles and the intricate mehndi.

City Streets & a Sydney Light Rail Moment

Next, we headed onto George Street, where the light rail lines, trees and modern towers make a lively urban backdrop. Walking shots here feel candid and cinematic, and a quick ride on the Sydney light rail with the bridal bouquet gave us some of the most playful, joyful images of the day. These in-between moments are often the ones couples end up loving most.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Views at Circular Quay

No Sydney post-wedding shoot is complete without the Harbour Bridge. Along the harbourfront near Circular Quay, the bridge's famous steel arch frames the couple beautifully, with ferries, sparkling water and the North Shore in the background. We worked between wide scenic frames that show off the location and closer, intimate portraits where the bridge softly sits behind the couple.

The Iconic Sydney Opera House

From the harbourfront it is a short stroll to Bennelong Point and the Sydney Opera House. Its sweeping white sails are a dream for wedding photography, especially paired with a bold red bridal outfit. We used the grand steps and the forecourt to create clean, minimal compositions, then slowed down for relaxed seated portraits on the steps, where the lehenga could spread out beautifully.

Golden Hour Magic & a Surprise Rainbow

As the sun dropped behind the city skyline, the whole forecourt glowed. Backlit by warm golden light, the bride's dupatta turned into a veil of glowing red, and we captured romantic silhouettes against the Sydney skyline. To finish the evening, a rainbow appeared over the harbour, a perfect ending to a beautiful day and a reminder that sometimes Sydney's weather is on your side.

Tips for Your Own Post-Wedding Shoot in Sydney City

  • Plan around golden hour. Start in the early afternoon in shaded CBD locations, then finish at the Opera House for sunset.
  • Expect crowds at iconic spots. Weekdays and the hour before sunset are usually calmer, and a patient photographer can work around passers-by.
  • Choose bold colours. Traditional red, maroon or jewel tones stand out beautifully against sandstone, harbour blues and white sails.
  • Wear comfortable shoes between locations. A city shoot involves walking, so bring a change of shoes and a small touch-up kit.
  • Check location rules. Some Sydney landmarks, including the Opera House precinct, have rules for professional photography, so we'll help you plan ahead.
